Calling all young coders in Nigeria!

Are you between the ages of 7 and 15? Do you love to code? Then you’re invited to participate in the Summer Holiday Coding Competition.
This is a nationwide competition for young coders to create their own Scratch or Mblock games. The theme for this year’s challenge is “Creativity in its finest”
Key Milestones
Launch in July. 14th, 2023
Registration and submission 15th – 30th July
August 12, 2023 Round 2 Participants present their games in Lagos Nigeria.
Round 3: 1 winner in each category are selected

How to Participate
To participate, you’ll need to: Create a Scratch game that fits with the theme.
Produce a 2-minute YouTube video explaining and showing how your game works, how it was coded, and how it fits with the theme and judging criteria. Register for the challenge and submit your video by the deadline. The winners of the challenge will be announced at an prize-giving ceremony in Lagos, Nigeria.
Participants
- You are to compete individually.
- You must be between the ages of 7 and 11 first Category or 12 – 15 Second Category.
- You must be residing or attending school in Nigeria.
Winners
- The winners of the challenge will be selected by a panel of judges. The judging criteria will include:
- Functionality and innovation, Community responsibility, Communications
The Rules
- Your game must be coded using Scratch.
- Your game must fit with the theme of “Creativity in its finest”
- You must submit a 2-minute YouTube video explaining and showing how your game works, how it was coded, and how it fits with the theme and judging criteria.
- It is recommended that your video is created using a screen capture and voice over method.
- You must be available for a physical prize-giving ceremony to be held in Lagos, Nigeria.
- By registering for the challenge, you agree to compete with other fair challenges.
Judging Criteria
- Functionality and innovation; Does the game work as intended?
- Is the game easy to use?
- Is the game imaginative?
- Does the game include original and well-written code?
Community responsibility 50%
- Is the game accessible for its target audience?
- Is the game inline with the theme?
Communications 25%
- Is the video clear and easy to understand?
- Does the video effectively communicate the game’s features and benefits?
Aesthetics 25%
- Does the game display correctly and look nice?
- Creativity and design of the game
PRIZES
Each Winner from the two Categories: Education Materials and Supplies worth 100K.
and A surprise pack which would could containing any of the following listed items A Tablet, Mini Solar System, MiFi, and/or Power bank.
First runups would receive a surprise pack also containing any of the listed items above
